Joel Hernandez, 54, of Fair Lawn, was riding his motorcycle home after work when he collided with a deer on the Garden State Parkway North near milepost 150.7 in Bloomfield, New Jersey State Police Trooper Sgt. Charles Marchan said.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by William Sullivan says Hernandez suffered internal bleeding and multiple broken bones, requiring several surgeries. While his condition is now stable, his recovery will require at least three months of hospitalization and ongoing medical care.

Hernandez, a member of the New Jersey DOC since 2016, has served with dedication at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, and he is a member of the Honor Guard, supporting his fellow officers during their hardest times. Now,

Hernandez finds himself in need of help. He is the sole financial provider for his family and the primary caregiver for his bedridden mother, adding to the emotional and financial challenges ahead.

The GoFundMe campaign describes Hernandez as a kindhearted and dedicated officer, and his family is reaching out for community support during this incredibly challenging time. Any contributions will help cover medical expenses and assist his family as they navigate his recovery.
